You cannot enter credentials to connect to an HTTP proxy server in Windows Messenger 5.0
When you try to configure Microsoft Windows Messenger 5.0 to
connect to an HTTP Proxy server that requires user authentication, you cannot
do so. The
User ID box and the
Password box
that are on the
Connection tab in the Windows Messenger
Options dialog box are unavailable (appear
dimmed).
To resolve this problem, download and install the latest
version of Windows Messenger.
Microsoft has confirmed
that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows Messenger 5.0.
This problem was corrected in Microsoft Windows Messenger 5.0.482.
The problem that is described in this article only affects
connections to the Microsoft .NET Passport service. This problem does not
affect connections to Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) servers, such as
Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2003, or connections to Microsoft
Exchange 2000 Instant Messaging Service.
For additional information
about how to install and about how to configure Windows Messenger to connect to
Live Communications Server, see the "Client Deployment and Distribution"
section of the
Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2003 Reference Guide. This guide is located in the Documentation folder of the Live
Communications Server CD.
APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2003
- Microsoft Windows Messenger 5.0
Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
