Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry
When you use Microsoft ActiveSync to synchronize your Microsoft Windows Powered Pocket PC with a computer that is running Microsoft Outlook 2000 and Microsoft Windows XP, you may receive a message to insert the Outlook 2000 CD to complete the Setup program.
Or, when you use ActiveSync to synchronize your Pocket PC with a computer that is running Outlook 2000 and Windows XP, you may receive the following error message:
Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. A required component is missing. Omi9.dll
This behavior may occur if one of the following conditions is true:
- A migration upgrade to Windows XP may not have completed or may have failed.
- The properties for the ActiveSync desktop shortcut are incorrect.
- The properties for Microsoft ActiveSync are set incorrectly in All Programs.
To correct the properties for the
ActiveSync desktop shortcut, follow these steps:
- Right-click the ActiveSync desktop shortcut, and then click Properties.
- On the Compatibility tab, click to clear the Run this program in compatibility mode for check box, and then click OK.
- Restart Microsoft Windows.
To correct the properties in
All Programs, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to All Programs, right-click Microsoft ActiveSync, and then click Properties.
- On the Compatibility tab, click to clear the Run this program in compatibility mode for check box, and then click OK.
- Restart Windows.
Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
If the steps in the "Resolution" section do not resolve the behavior, you may have to remove an incorrect registry entry. To remove the incorrect registry entry, follow these steps:
- Quit Outlook.
- Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate the following registry entry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles
If the previous registry entry exists, delete it.
Note In Windows XP, the following registry entry is the correct registry entry that is used by ActiveSync:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Windows
Messaging Subsystem\Profiles
APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 Software Standard Edition
- Microsoft Windows Powered Pocket PC 2000
- Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PC Standard Edition
Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
