PRB: Error occurs when you try to rollback MDAC installation

SYMPTOMS

When you try to rollback an installation of Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC), you receive the following error message:
Fatal Setup Error

Microsoft Data Access Components cannot be rolled back. Setup has detected that a different version of Microsoft Data Access Components is installed on the machine.
This message can appear both as a message box during the installation and in the dasetup.log file that is created during installation.

CAUSE

This error occurs because you have installed MDAC security patches or other fixes since the last full MDAC installation on your computer. The MDAC installer does not support rollback in this scenario.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

The installer in MDAC 2.6 and later versions has built-in rollback functionality that can rollback to the previously installed MDAC version as long as no additional patches or fixes have been applied.
