"During logon attempt, the users security context accumulated too many security ids" error message when you try to log on to Project Server 2002
When you log on to Microsoft Project Server 2002, you may
receive the following error message:
During logon
attempt, the users security context accumulated too many security
ids.
This issue may occur if you are a member of more than 1024
groups on the server. When you publish a new project to Project Server 2002,
SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft creates new local group accounts for
the new subweb that is created on the server, and adds the user to the local
group account. This issue may occur if there are many subwebs on the
server.
To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods,
depending on your situation:
- Configure the Use same permissions as parent Web
site option for the MS_ProjectServer_PublicDocuments subweb. After you
do so, when you create a new project, new group accounts are no longer created
by SharePoint Team Services. To configure the Use same permissions as
parent Web site option for the MS_ProjectServer_PublicDocuments
subweb, follow these steps:
- Start Microsoft SharePoint Administrator.
- On the Server Administration page, click the name of
the virtual server that you want to configure.
- Under Subwebs, click
MS_ProjectServer_PublicDocuments.
- On the Web site Administration page, under
Users and Roles, click Change subweb
permissions.
- On the Change Subweb Permissions page, click
Use same permissions as parent Web site, and then click
Submit.
- Repeat step 2 through step 5 for each virtual
server.
- Configure the Use same permissions as parent Web
site option for each Web site. After you do so, existing group
accounts that are created by SharePoint Team Services are removed. To configure
the Use same permissions as parent Web site option for each
Web site, follow these steps:
- Start SharePoint Administrator.
- On the Server Administration page, click the name of
the virtual server that you want to configure.
- Under Subwebs, click the name of the
subweb that you want to configure.
- On the Web site Administration page, under
Users and Roles, click Change subweb
permissions.
- On the Change Subweb Permissions page, click
Use same permissions as parent Web site, and then click
Submit.
- Repeat step 2 through step 5 for each virtual
server.
You can use the either Owsadm.exe command-line tool or the
Owsrmadm.exe command-line tool with the
nomachinegroup command-line option to turn off local machine groups in
SharePoint Team Services. For more information about how to do this, visit the
following Microsoft Web site:

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
