List of supported formats for Windows Media Player 9 Series for Pocket PC
Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Pocket PC supports certain formats for the following:

File formats that are supported
- Advanced Streaming Format (.asf) - playback and streaming
- MPEG-1 Layer 3 (.mp3) - playback only
- Microsoft Windows Media Audio (.wma) - playback and streaming
- Microsoft Windows Media Player (.wmp) - playback and streaming
- Microsoft Windows Media Video (.wmv) - playback and streaming
File formats that are not supported
- Audio (.au)
- Audio Interchange File Format
(.aiff )
- Audio Video Interleaved
(.avi)
- Automatic Voice Recognition (.avr)
- Digital Video Express
(.divx)
- Musical Instrument Digital Interface
(.midi)
- MPEG-1 (.mpg) by Moving Picture Expert Group
- MPEG-1 Layer 3 (.mp3) playlists - .m3u, .pl, and others by Moving Picture Expert Group

Encoding methods
Encoding methods that are supported
- The Fraunhofer IIS-A MPEG-1 Audio Layer-3 (.mp3) codec
- The International Standards Organization (ISO)
MPEG-4 video codec
- The Microsoft MPEG-4 codec - versions 2 and 3
- The Microsoft Windows Media Audio (WMA) codec - version 2, version 7, and
version 8
(Windows Media Player 9 for Pocket PC 2003
supports the version 9 codec)
- The Microsoft Windows Media Video (WMV) codec - versions 7 and 8
(Windows Media Player 9 Series for Pocket PC supports the
version 9 codec)
Encoding methods that are not supported
- Apple video
- JPEG motion
- QuickTime
- Sorenson video
- Any encoding methods that is not listed in "Encoding methods that are supported"
Redirects that are supported
Although the following redirects are supported, they must point at supported
data file formats:
- Active Streaming Format (ASF) Stream Redirector (.asx) - script
- Windows Media Audio Redirector (.wax) - script
- Windows Media
(.wm)
- Windows Media Player
(.wmp)
- Windows Media Redirector (.wmx) - script
- Windows Media Video Redirector (.wvx) - script

- Hypertext Transfer Protocol(HTTP) and HTTP proxy
