The Windows Small Business Server 2003 installation process takes longer than you expect after the Registering Components section reports that 13 minutes remain

SYMPTOMS

When you install the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 part of Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003, the installation process may seem to stop responding when the Registering Components section of the process reports that 13 minutes remain. The installation process may take longer than 13 minutes to complete.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Windows Small Business Server Setup program installs additional security updates that were released after the release of Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition. The installation process may also take longer than you expect depending on the hardware configuration of your computer.

RESOLUTION

This behavior is expected and does not indicate a problem with the Setup program or with the hardware. You do not have to take any action other than to wait for the installation process to complete its remaining tasks.

I have found that whilst installing Windows 2003 SBS that the install appears to hang at 13 minutes left. Microsoft artical states this is not the case and that the install continues to progress. I have left my server installing now for 24 hours and still 13 minutes left. I have found out that if you eject the CD at the point it appears to have stopped responding , then insert the cd back in , the install continues and gets past the stuck installation. Hope this helps someone

Wow, cheers mate... tried twice to get it installed with no luck, anyone got an idea if it's a particular piece of hardware? Bit annoying, Paul

Changing the language options to something other that English (United States) seems to hang the installation at this point. If you leave it at the default settings, it still takes a while but at least it gets there...

Changed old CD to newer DVD when reinstalling. The famous "13 minutes"-threshold now took about 10 minutes to pass as opposed to the +2 hours it took the last times...

My installation took about an hour to get past the 13 minute stage as a guide to any other searchers. During that time I ejected and reinserted the CD about 6 times. Hope this helps those waiting.
