Error message when you try to open a Word 2003 XML document from a SharePoint Portal Server 2003 document library
When you try to open a Microsoft Office Word 2003 XML
document from a Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 document
library, you may receive the following error message:
The
XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using style sheet.
Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again
later.
An invalid character was found in text content. Error
processing resource
'http://SharePoint_Site/document_library/Upload%20Word_document.xml'.
This problem may occur if you first edit the Word XML
document in Word 2003, and at the same time, you click the list entry to open
the document from the document library. After you make changes and close or
save the document, the file information is incorrectly written back to the
document that is stored in the document library.
Microsoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
in the "Applies to" section.
APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Office Word 2003
- Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
