BUG: A file copy operation does not succeed on a shared folder when you use a wireless LAN connection

On This Page

SYMPTOMS

You receive an error message if the following sequence of events occurs:
  1. You delete a file from a shared folder on a desktop computer.
  2. You use a handheld device and a wireless LAN connection to copy a file to the shared folder on the desktop computer. The file has the same name as the file that you deleted in step 1.
  3. You click Yes when you receive a message that prompts you with a question about whether you want to replace the file.
You receive the following error message:
Error Copying File
Cannot copy <FileName>: Access is denied.
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and the file is not currently in use.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the system is not correctly updated.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, disconnect from the shared folder, and then reconnect to the shared folder. This action permits the file copy operation to succeed.

This problem is resolved in Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

  5. On the device, use the tap-and-hold technique to select a file on the device, and then tap Copy.
  6. Tap the Open menu, enter the name of the shared folder in Open path, and then tap OK to connect to the shared folder.
  7. If you have to, enter your ID and your password.
  8. Tap Edit on the command bar, and then tap Paste to copy the file to the shared folder on the desktop computer.
  9. On the desktop computer, delete the copied file from the shared folder.
  10. On the device, copy the same file that you selected earlier.
  11. While the device is connected to the network, open the same shared folder that you opened earlier.
  12. Tap Edit on the command bar, and then tap Paste.
