INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to let Microsoft Project 2002 connect to your Microsoft Project Server 2002 that is located in the intranet zone without receiving a prompt to add Project Server 2002 as a trusted site.

RESOLUTION

To prevent the prompt to add your Microsoft Project Server 2002 as a trusted site, install the Microsoft Project 2002 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package that is dated June 2, 2004.

After you install this hotfix, follow the steps that are listed in the "More Information" section of this article to set the Enable untrusted intranet zone access to Project server registry key and to activate the hotfix.

MORE INFORMATION

Warning This workaround may make your computer or your network more vulnerable to attack by malicious users or by malicious software such as viruses. We do not recommend this workaround but are providing this information so that you can implement this workaround at your own discretion. Use this workaround at your own risk.

Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

After you install the hotfix package, add the Enable untrusted intranet zone access to Project server registry subkey. To do this, follow these steps.

Note The addition of the Enable untrusted intranet zone access to Project server registry subkey will prevent you from receiving the prompt only if Project Server 2002 is located on your intranet. If Project Server2002 is not located on your intranet, you will still receive the prompt, and you must add the Project Server 2002 as a trusted site.
  1. Quit Project 2002.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  4. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\MS Project\Options\General
  5. After you select the subkey that is specified in step 4, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click DWORD Value.
  6. Type Enable untrusted intranet zone access to Project server, and then press ENTER.
  7. Right-click Enable untrusted intranet zone access to Project server, and then click Modify.
  8. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  9. On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.

Note You can re-enable the default behavior by setting the value of the Enable untrusted intranet zone access to Project server registry subkey to 0.
