You receive an "Entourage is almost out of space" warning message when you start Entourage 2004 for Mac
When you start Microsoft Entourage 2004 for Mac, or when
Entourage automatically scans and downloads new e-mail messages, you may
receive one of the following warning messages:
Entourage is almost out of space.
To free up space, you can delete items and then run the Database Utility
program. This compacts the database and frees up space. To learn how to run the
Database Utility or how to back up items to an archive before deleting them,
see Entourage Help.
Entourage is out of space and cannot
store any more items until you free up space.
To free up space, you can
delete items and then run the Database Utility program. This compacts the
database and frees up space. To learn how to run the Database Utility or how to
back up items to an archive before deleting them, see Entourage Help.
This issue occurs because the size of each Entourage user
database is limited to 2 million objects. This translates into a
combination of 1 million items, such as e-mail messages, notes, contacts,
calendar events, tasks or project items. When a user's
database size approaches 1.9 million objects, the "Entourage is almost out of
space" warning message
is displayed. When the database reaches or exceeds 2 million objects, the user
account is taken offline, and Entourage
does not connect to
your user account e-mail server until the file size of
the user database is reduced.
To resolve this issue, delete items from various folders. Then,
run the Database Utility program to compact
your user database. We
recommend that you create an archive of your database before you continue. Follow
these steps
to free space:
- On the File menu, click
Export.
- Click Export items to an Entourage
archive, click All items, and then click to select
the check boxes that you want.
- Click the right arrow.
- If you want Entourage to delete the items after you export
them to the archive, click Yes, delete items from Entourage after they
are archived. If you do not want Entourage to delete the items after you export them to the archive, click No, keep the items in Entourage
after they are archived.
- Click the right arrow, type a name for the export
file, select
a location where you want to save the file on your hard disk drive,
and then click Save.
- Click Done.
For more information about how to use the Database Utility,
click
Entourage Help on the
Help menu, type
database utility, and then click
Search. Click the Help topic,
Compact
and back up the Entourage database.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
