You receive the error message “This update has already been applied or is included in an update that has already been applied†when you install an update for Office
When you install a Microsoft Office update, you may receive the following error message:
This update has already been applied or is included in an update that has already been applied.
This issue occurs because of the following conditions:
- You try to install an Office update.
- The files that the Office update program is trying to install on your computer have already been updated to a later version.
- The files that are on your computer have a later version because you have installled a different Office update that contains file versions that are later than the Office update that you are trying to install.
This error message can be ignored. This error message indicates that the update that you are trying to install is not required.
To determine if you are experiencing this issue, view the Office hotfix installation log file. The Office hotfix installation log file will have a name that is similar to the following, where
x is a number for each instance of the log file starting with the number 1:
Ohotfix(0000x).log
Note The highest numbered Office hotfix installation file is the latest update installation.
To view the Office hotfix installation log file, follow these steps:
- Start a text editor such as Notepad. To do this, click Start, click Run, type Notepad, and then click OK.
- Open the Ohotfix(0000x).log file. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- Type the following:
%temp%\ohotfix
- Click OK.
By default, the OHotfix folder is located at the following path, where UserName is the user name: Drive:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Settings\Temp\OHotfix
Important The Local Settings folder is a hidden folder. - The Ohotfix(0000x).log file will contain an entry that is similar to the following:
