You may find that you cannot install Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1) from the Microsoft Windows Update Web site. After you click
Install Now to install Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 SP1, you receive the following error message on the Windows Update Web page:
No Updates Were Installed
When you view the Ohotfix(
Number).log file that is located in the %Temp%\Ohotfix folder on the hard disk, you see the following entries:
The update failed.
Finished processing the update on Date at Time.
Encountered error 1603 while updating.
Error 1603 not ok to report to Setup Watson.
Note You install the service pack by either logging on to the server directly or by connecting through a console session. If you install the service pack while you are logged on using a Remote Desktop, the OHotfix log files that are located in your %Temp%\Ohotfix directory will be deleted after you log out and then log back on again.
You can create a console session from the computer that you are logged on by clicking
Start, clicking
Run, and then typing
mstsc -v:<<servername>> /F -console in the
Open box, where
<<servername>> is the server that you want to connect to.
This issue may occur if the following conditions are true:

To work around this issue, repair the installation of the original release version of Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 on the computer. To do this, follow these steps:
- Run the Setup program for Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 by using the Stsv2.exe file that you downloaded from the Microsoft Download Center when you installed the original release version of Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 on the computer. To obtain this file, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
- On the Maintenance Mode Options page, click Reinstall or Repair, and then click Next.
- On the Reinstall or Repair Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 page, click Reinstall Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 2.0, and then click Install.
- After Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 is successfully installed on the computer, connect to the Windows Update Web site, and then install Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 SP1.
