You are missing menu items or toolbars in Project and have file association conflicts when multiple versions of Project are installed on the same computer

SYMPTOMS

When you run Microsoft Project, you are missing either toolbars or menu items. When you double-click a Project file, Project may not open or read the file.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when multiple versions of Project are installed on your computer. The global template for Project is not overwritten when you install a new version of Project. The Project files are associated with the last version of Project that you installed on your computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, we recommend that you do not install multiple versions of Project on the same computer.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003
  • Microsoft Office Project Standard 2003
  • Microsoft Project 2002 Professional Edition
  • Microsoft Project 2000 Standard Edition

We have never recommended that our user have multiple versions of Microsoft Project on their PCs. Now that Microsoft is recommending this, are they going to modify Project's install program, to remove the option to keep older versions of MSP on a mschine?
