The MOM 2005 Management Server does not appear under the <Agent-managed Computers> node in the MOM 2005 Administrator Console

SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 Management Server does not appear under the <Agent-managed Computers> node in the MOM 2005 Administrator Console. The MOM 2005 Management Server only appears under the following nodes in the MOM 2005 Administrator Console:
  • <All Computers>
  • <Management Servers>
Also, you cannot remove the MOM 2005 Management Server from these nodes. If you try to use the Create Computer Discovery Rule dialog box to create a rule that includes or excludes the MOM 2005 Management Server, you receive an error message that is similar to the following:
The computer name you specified is a Management Server. Management Server computer discovery rules cannot be added or changed.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because MOM 2005 is different from MOM 2000. In MOM 2000, you can add or remove a MOM Database Access Server/Consolidator-Agent Manager (DCAM) server from the <Management Computers> node by using a custom rule.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005
