Many false heartbeat alerts are generated by Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 servers
Many heartbeat alerts appear in the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 Operator console. The heartbeat alerts indicate that a particular computer is offline or unreachable. MOM administrators may also receive notification e-mail messages or pages when the alerts occur.
This problem can occur when the following conditions are true:
- The MOM database is on a separate computer from the MOM server.
- The time setting on the MOM server computer is not synchronized with the time setting on the MOM database computer.
- The time setting difference is equal to the Interval to scan for agent heartbeats option on the Heartbeat Checking tab in Management Servers properties.
To resolve this problem, you must synchronize the time setting on the MOM server with the domain time server. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
- At the command prompt, type Net Time /set, and then press Enter.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
