Version 1.0a of the Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) High Definition Audio class driver for Microsoft Windows has been released. This release supports the High Definition Audio and Modem implementations that are known to Microsoft as of August 1, 2004. This is the second version of this driver.
Version 1.0a of the UAA High Definition Audio class driver does not work on High Definition Audio implementations that were disclosed to Microsoft after August 1, 2004.
You must uninstall version 1.0 of the UAA High Definition Audio class driver before you install version 1.0a.

Restart requirement
You may have to restart your computer after you apply this update if the operating system components that this update replaces are being used when you install the update.

UAA describes a class driver initiative for computer audio solutions that are supported in Microsoft Windows operating systems.
An audio device that is UAA-compliant can rely on the operating system for driver support. Therefore, hardware vendors do not have to supply a custom driver for a device.
A High Definition Audio device complies with the Intel High Definition Audio specification. A High Definition Audio device connects to the PCI bus or to the PCI Express bus. A High Definition Audio device can reside on an internal audio card, or the device can be part of an integrated motherboard chip set.
In the spring of 2004, Intel Corporation released the first hardware that includes High Definition Audio-compliant solutions. The update that is described in this article supports the Intel High Definition Audio-compliant hardware.
The audio industry solution that has been used in the past is the AC’97 Audio codec. UAA includes the following improvements for users, OEMs, and hardware manufacturers.

If you install, remove, and then re-install this update, the update is no longer listed in Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. Therefore, you cannot remove this update from your computer. To work around this problem, follow these steps.

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows
- Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
- Locate and then click the following subkey in the registry:

- On the Edit menu, click Delete.
- Click Yes, and then exit Registry Editor.
