You receive an "Out of Disk Space" error message when you try to install Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 Reporting

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 Reporting, you may receive the following error message:
Out of Disk Space

CAUSE

This behavior typically occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • You try to install the MOM Reporting database and the MOM Reporting transaction log on the same disk volume.
  • The MOM Reporting database fills more than 66 percent of the of the available disk space.
The MOM Reporting Setup program tries to reserve half the size of the database plus 4 MB for the transaction log. For example, if you set the size of the database to 1000 MB, MOM Reporting Setup tries to reserve 504 MB for the transaction log.

When you try to install the transaction log on the same disk volume as the MOM Reporting database, and you set the database size to more than 66 percent of the available disk space, the space that is required for the transaction log exceeds the available disk space. Therefore, MOM Reporting Setup cannot create the transaction log, and you receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods:
  • Install the MOM Reporting database and the MOM Reporting transaction log on different disk volumes. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Run the MOM 2005 Reporting Setup wizard.
    2. On the Database and Log File Information page, click Advanced.
    3. Next to Database log file location, click Change, and then specify a different disk volume.
    4. Complete MOM 2005 Reporting Setup.
  • Reduce the size of the MOM Reporting database. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Run the MOM 2005 Reporting Setup wizard.
    2. On the Database and Log File Information page, type a size in the Database size box that is less than 66 percent of the available disk space.
    3. Complete MOM 2005 Reporting Setup.
