INTRODUCTION

This article describes the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 issue that is fixed in the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package that is dated December 30, 2004.

Issue that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • The values of custom properties of documents are not updated when you connect to a backward-compatible document library by using a Web browser

Consider the following scenario in SharePoint Portal Server 2003 when you work with documents in backward-compatible document libraries:
    1. You create a document profile.
    2. You add a custom property to the document profile.
    3. You apply the document profile to a document in a backward-compatible document library.
    4. You connect to the backward-compatible document library in a Web browser.
    5. You check out the document.
    6. You modify the value of the custom property.
    7. You check in the document.
When you view the document, the value of the custom property is not updated. The value of the custom property still uses the value that was set before you checked out the document.

You experience this issue when you connect to the backward-compatible document library by using a Web browser. You do not experience this issue when you connect to the backward-compatible document library by using Web folders.
