SYMPTOMS

A delay occurs when you close an activity and then immediately try to open other records in Microsoft CRM 1.2.

CAUSE

This delay can occur because of a Microsoft SQL Server lock on Microsoft CRM tables. When the Microsoft CRM tables are in a locked state, other Microsoft CRM users may not be able to open activities or other records.

To confirm that Microsoft SQL Server is locking the tables, you can use SQL Server Enterprise Manager to monitor the lock.
  1. Click Start, click Programs, click Microsoft SQL Server, and then click Enterprise Manager.
  2. Expand the following nodes:
    • Microsoft SQL Servers
    • SQL Server Group
    • YourSQLServerName
  3. Expand the following nodes under your server:
    • Management
    • Current Activity
    • Locks / Process ID
    • YourSQLServerName

Microsoft CRM has a fix for this problem that is part of a cumulative update. The cumulative update information is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
