SYMPTOMS

If you try to run the Setactionaccount.exe utility, you are prompted for the password of the Action account. However, the Setactionaccount.exe utility does not allow the password as an option.

CAUSE

The version of the Setactionaccount.exe utility that is included with the original release of Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 does not support an option to provide a password for the account in the Setactionaccount.exe utility command-line syntax.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

You must install this hotfix on the computer that hosts a MOM Agent.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

Note This hotfix will restart the MOM service when you install this hotfix.

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

Installation instructions

To install this hotfix, follow these steps:
  1. Copy the Mom2005-rtm-kb894464-x86-ia64-enu.exe file to a local folder or to a shared network folder. If you use a shared network folder, make sure that you can access the folder from the computers that requires this hotfix.
  2. Log on to one of the computers that requires this hotfix. You must log on to the computer as an administrator.
  3. Run Mom2005-rtm-kb894464-x86-ia64-enu.exe on each computer that requires this hotfix. You can run the file at a command prompt, or you can double-click the file.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 on each computer that requires this hotfix.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

The Setactionaccount.exe utility is provided with MOM 2005. The Setactionaccount.exe utility is used to view and designate a specific Action account for MOM 2005.

The new update to the Setactionaccount.exe utility is available as a hotfix that supports an option of a password in the command-line syntax. Install the Setactionaccount.exe utility to the MOM 2005 program folder. By default, the MOM 2005 program folder is the Program Files\Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 folder. Help for the utility syntax is available by running the utility at a command prompt with /? switch.

To set the action account and specify the password, use the following command line syntax:
SetActionAccount.exe <ConfigGroupName> -set <Domain Username Password>
