How to troubleshoot issues that occur when you use a recording device with Picture It! Express 10 or with Digital Image
When you try to use the
Archive command to save your pictures to a CD or to other media in Microsoft Picture It! Library 10 or Microsoft Digital Image,
your recording device may not work correctly. Additionally, you may receive one of the following error messages:
Unable to verify archiving
Additionally, when you try to record a Video CD (VCD) in Microsoft Photo Story, you cannot create the VCD.
Troubleshoot the issue until you determine the cause. To troubleshoot this issue, use the following methods:
- If you receive the “Unable to finish burn†error message when you try to archive lots of pictures, you
may have insufficient disk space on your computer’s hard disk. You must have sufficient disk space to prepare
for the recording process. To work around this issue, record fewer images in a single recording session.
- If you receive the “Unable to finish burn†error message when you try to archive pictures from a folder that is more than eight
levels deep in folders, try to move your pictures to a
higher-level folder, and then try to archive them again. Some recording devices cannot record the pictures that you select if they are
stored in folders that are nested more than eight levels deep. For example, if your pictures are stored in the C:\My
Documents\My Pictures\Vacations\2001\Summer\Road Trip\Arizona\Week 3\Phoenix folder, move
the pictures to the C:\My Documents\My Pictures\Vacations folder.
- If you receive the “Unable to verify archiving†error message after you use the Archive
command, the command cannot automatically verify the recording. Typically, the archive process is completed successfully. To verify that the photos are saved, explore the contents of the CD on your
computer, and then verify that the files that you want were copied to the CD.
- Contact the manufacturer of your recording device to obtain the latest driver.

For information about your hardware manufacturer, visit the following Web site:
- Make sure that the correct recording media is in your recording device. For example, you must use a CD-R or CD-RW. Additionally, if you have a DVD recorder, you must use a recordable DVD disc that is compatible with your DVD recording device. For example, DVD+R media will not work in a DVD-R drive.
- Reduce the recording speed on your recording device.
-
Many recording devices support multiple media types
but have more success with certain kinds of discs. For example, your recording device may support CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW and other types of media. If you have trouble burning
successfully to one media type, try another supported media type.
-
If you are running Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), and you plug an external recordable device
into your computer after you start the archive process, your computer may crash. To work around this behavior, connect the external recordable device into your computer and insert a blank disc before you start the
archive process.
- If you try to create a VCD in Microsoft
Photo Story, the VCDs may not be recorded successfully on the following devices:
- Ricoh DVD/CD-RW MP9060
- Iomega HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8400B
A work around is not available for this issue.
