This article describes the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 issue that is fixed in the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package that is dated April 12, 2005.
Issue that the hotfix package fixes
This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
- An access violation occurs in Tquery.dll, and no documents are returned in the search results when you perform a search by using a custom application that accesses the Query Web service
Consider the following scenario. You create a custom application that accesses the Query Web service in SharePoint Portal Server 2003 for search functionality. When users perform a search by using the custom application, an access violation occurs in the Tquery.dll component on the server. Additionally, no documents are returned in the search results. If the correct symbols are installed on the server, the Dr. Watson log or the corresponding User.dmp file may contain a call stack that is similar to the following:
0:016> kL
0176e610 04b75a06 tquery!CSecurityTrimmer::AccessChecksFromSQL+0x107
0176e6d0 04b770f1 tquery!CSecurityTrimmer::DoAccessCheck+0x408
0176e758 79216cc6 tquery!CSecurityTrimmer::AccessCheck+0xdf
0176e820 019bbbf5 mscorsvr!ComPlusToComWorker+0x177
This issue occurs when the number of characters that is contained in the query exceeds the maximum limit that is set in Microsoft SQL Server 2000. If a discretionary access control list (DACL) is not in the cache, SharePoint Portal Server 2003 retrieves the DACL from SQL Server 2000. If there are many DACLs that must be retrieved, the number of characters in the query may exceed the maximum limit.
For example, this issue may occur if one of the following conditions is true: - The user runs a query that uses a large search scope.
- The user runs a query that should return lots of documents in the search results.
