You receive error messages when you try to insert or to import a picture in FrontPage or in SharePoint Designer

SYMPTOMS

When you try to insert a picture on a Web page in Microsoft FrontPage or in Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007, the picture is not inserted. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
Could not load file path\filename. This image file format is not supported.
If you try to import the picture in a FrontPage Web site, the picture does not import. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
Server error: The URL 'filename' is invalid. It may refer to a nonexistent file or folder, or refer to a valid file or folder that is not in the current Web.

CAUSE

This issue may occur when the file name of the picture contains a pound-sign (#) character.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove the pound-sign character from the file name of the picture. For example, rename the picture from the Filename#1.jpg file to the Filename1.jpg file.

To insert a picture on a Web page in FrontPage, follow these steps:
  1. On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click From File.
  2. In the Picture dialog box, right -click the picture, and then click Rename.
  3. Type the picture file name without the pound-sign character, and then press ENTER.
  4. To insert the picture on the Web page, click the renamed picture, and then click Insert.
To import the picture into a FrontPage Web site or into a SharePoint Designer Web site, follow these steps:
  1. On the File menu, click Import.
  2. In the Import dialog box, click Add File.
  3. In the Add File to Import dialog box, right-click the picture, and then click Rename.
  4. Type the picture file name without the pound-sign, and then press ENTER.
  5. To import the picture into your FrontPage Web site or your SharePoint Designer Web site, click the renamed picture, and then click Open.
  6. In the Import dialog box, click OK.

Community Feedback System

Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back. Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what didn't.

Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry edits), please consult a professional.

Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
