You receive an error message when you try to use IIS 6.0 Manager for Windows XP to connect to an instance of IIS 6.0 that is running on a remote server
When you try to use Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 Manager for Microsoft Windows XP to connect from a Windows XP-based computer to an instance of IIS 6.0 that is running on a remote server, you may receive one of the following error messages:
The specified module could not be found.
This issue occurs if the Admwprox.dll file is missing on the Windows XP-based computer on which IIS 6.0 Manager for Windows XP is installed.
To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods:

To resolve this issue, install IIS 5.1 on the Windows XP-based computer on which IIS 6 Manager for Windows XP is installed. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type Appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
- Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
- Click to select the Internet Information Services (IIS) check box, and then click Next.
Note To install specific IIS 5.1 subcomponents, double-click Internet Information Services (IIS). - Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
Method 2: Copy the Admwprox.dll file from the installation media
To resolve this issue, copy the Admwprox.dll file from the installation media to the Inetserv6 folder on your computer. To do this, follow these steps:
- Locate the Admwprox.dl_ file on the installation media for the version of Windows XP that is installed on the computer.
- Copy the Admwprox.dl_ file to the Inetsrv6 folder.
Notes- You must copy the correct version of the Admwprox.dl_ file for the version of Windows that is installed on the computer. The Admwprox.dl_ file is located in the i386 folder on the installation media. For example, if Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) is installed on the computer, copy the Admwprox.dl_ file from the i386 folder on the installation media for Windows XP SP2.
- By default, the Inetsrv6 folder is located in the %systemroot%\system32 folder.
- Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
- At the command prompt, type %systemroot%\system32\Inetsrv6.
- At the command prompt, type expand Admwprox.dl_ Admwprox.dll.
- At the command prompt, type exit.
- Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 %Systemroot%\System32\Inetsrv6\admwprox.dll, and then click OK.
