When you perform a free text search in Microsoft Commerce
Server 2002, you receive the following error message:

column name 'FREETEXTSEARCH_Rank'.
Description: An unhandled exception
occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the
stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the
code.
Exception Details: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException:

'FREETEXTSEARCH_Rank'
This problem occurs when you run the free text search, and
you set the
CategoryName option on the
CatalogSearch object.
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites
You must apply Commerce Server 2002 Service Pack 3 (SP3) before
you apply this hotfix.
Restart requirement
You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this
hotfix. However, you must restart Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS)
after you install this hotfix. To restart the IIS services, use the following
command:
IISReset /restart
File Information
The English version of this hotfix has the file
attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table.
The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time
(UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To
find the difference between UTC and local time, use the
Time
Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

Microsoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
in the "Applies to" section.
You must also update the catalog databases for existing
Commerce Server sites. To update the catalog databases, follow these steps:
- Back up the existing catalog database before you install
this hotfix.
- Run the hotfix installer. This will replace the
Catalogcreate.sql script and will make sure that future unpackaged sites will
receive the stored procedure update.
- To change the existing site database, run SQL Query
Analyzer.
- In SQL Query Analyzer, choose the Commerce Server database
that contains the catalog by running the following command:Note In this step, DatabaseName is a
placeholder for the name of the database.
- In SQL Query Analyzer, click Open on the
File menu.
- Locate the 1682.sql file that is included in the hotfix
package, and then click OK.
- On the Query menu, click
Execute.
Note This step will update the site database. - Repeat steps 3 - 7 for every Commerce Server site where you
experience the symptoms that are described in the "Symptoms"
section.
