Description of support for the use of virtual machines in Microsoft Dynamics AX environments

Microsoft Business Solutions-Axapta 3.0 is now part of Microsoft Dynamics AX 3.0. All references to Microsoft Business Solutions-Axapta and Microsoft Axapta pertain to Microsoft Dynamics AX.

INTRODUCTION

Using virtual machines in Microsoft Dynamics AX production environments is not supported. Using virtual machines in Microsoft Dynamics AX non-production environments is supported. However, virtual machines can be used in Microsoft Dynamics AX environments that are intended for development, for testing, or for demonstration. Installations on Microsoft Virtual Server or on Microsoft Virtual PC are only supported for testing and for troubleshooting. We do not recommend or support virtual server technologies and personal computer technologies for production environments that are running Microsoft Dynamics AX. Running the Application Object Server (AOS) on VMware or on Virtual Server is strictly unsupported, because of the volatility of over performance when Microsoft Dynamics AX is running in a virtual machine environment. If Microsoft Dynamics AX is configured in this manner, we cannot help troubleshoot, and we cannot provide technical support.

MORE INFORMATION

When you deploy Microsoft Dynamics AX with virtual machines, sufficient hardware is required to avoid performance issues. All individual virtual machines should meet or exceed memory and disk space requirements as if they were individual native computers.

Product support for Microsoft Dynamics AX is provided as commercially reasonable support when the software is installed on a supported operating system that is running on a virtual machine. If you have a problem with Microsoft Dynamics AX when it is running on a virtual machine, the problem can be escalated to the Microsoft Dynamics AX product group for investigation only when the following conditions are true:
  • The problem cannot be resolved through the commercially reasonable support of Microsoft Product Support Services.
  • The problem is reproducible in Microsoft Dynamics AX when the software is installed on a supported operating system that is not running on a virtual machine.

Note Commercially reasonable support is all reasonable support that is provided by Microsoft Product Support Services that does not require Microsoft Dynamics AX code fixes.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0
  • Microsoft Dynamics AX 3.0

Community Feedback System

Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back. Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what didn't.

Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry edits), please consult a professional.
