You receive an error message when you try to install Commerce Server 2002 components by using the Setup program after you install Commerce Server 2002 Service Pack 2
After you install Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 Service Pack 2 (SP2), you try to install the Direct Mail component or other Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 components by using the Setup program (Setup.exe). When you do this, the installation is unsuccessful. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
Setup has detected that a newer build of Commerce Server is already installed. If you would like to install an older build, you must first remove the newer build using Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
This problem occurs because the Setup program does not support installing Commerce Server 2002 components after Commerce Server 2002 SP2 is installed.
To resolve this problem and install Commerce Server 2002 components, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, open Add or Remove Programs.
- In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, click Microsoft Commerce Server 2002, and then click Change.
Note Depending on the version of Commerce Server 2002 that is installed, the name of the program in the Add or Remove Programs dialog box may be different. - In the Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 Setup wizard, click Next two times.
- On the Custom Setup page, select the components that you want to install, and then click Next.
- Follow the remaining instructions to complete the installation.
APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 Standard Edition
- Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 Service Pack 2

didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
