When you try to install SharePoint Portal Server 2003, the installation process rolls back
When you try to install Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003, the installation process rolls back. Additionally, the Setup.exe process uses 100 percent of CPU resources.
This issue occurs if the account that you use to install SharePoint Portal Server 2003 does not have the
Log on as a batch job user right and the
Log on as a service user right.
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type gpedit.msc, and then click OK.
- Expand Local Computer Policy, expand Computer Configuration, expand Windows Settings, expand Security Settings, expand Local policies, and then click User Rights Assignment.
- Double-click Log on as a batch job, click Add user or group, type the name of the account that you use to install SharePoint Portal Server 2003, and then click OK two times.
- Double-click Log on as a service, click Add user or group, type the name of the account that you use to install SharePoint Portal Server 2003, and then click OK two times.
This behavior is by design.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
