In Publisher 2003, you cannot change a publication that was created on a different computer if the publication contains embedded preview-only fonts
You open a Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 publication that was created on a different computer. If you try to edit or move the text or objects that are contained in the publication, you cannot make the changes as expected.
Additionally, most menu commands, toolbar buttons, and dialog box options are not available. For example, the following items may not be available:
- The following commands on the File menu:
- All the buttons on the Object toolbar
This issue may occur if one or more of the embedded fonts that are used in the publication are preview-only fonts. When you use preview-only fonts, you can view and print the publication. However, you cannot make any changes in the publication.
To work around this issue, use one of the following methods.
Method 1: Do not load a preview-only font
To prevent the loading of preview-only fonts in a publication, follow these steps:
- On the File menu, click Open. Then, open the publication in Publisher 2003.
If the publication was created on a different computer, and if the publication contains preview-only fonts, the Load Fonts dialog box appears. - In the Load Fonts dialog box, follow these steps:
- Examine the list of fonts. If a font has a status of Preview only, do not load the font. Additionally, do not load a font that starts with @ (at sign).
- After you have decided which fonts you do not want to load, click one of the fonts, and then click Don't Load.
- Repeat step 2b for each font that you do not want to load.
- Click OK to close the Load Fonts dialog box and to open the publication.
Method 2: Use Microsoft Publisher 2002
To avoid this issue in a publication that contains preview-only fonts, open the publication in Publisher 2002.
For more information about how to embed only part of a font in your publication, click
Microsoft Office Publisher Help on the
Help menu, type
subset font in the
Search for box in the Assistance pane, and then click
Start searching to view the topic.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
