You receive an error message "An older version of the Microsoft Database Daemon is running" or "An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework library" after you install Office 2004 for Mac SP2

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Service Pack 2 (SP2), you experience the following symptoms:  

When you start Microsoft Entourage 2004 for Mac, you receive the following error message:

An older version of the Microsoft Database Daemon is running. To open Entourage, first delete the daemon from the Startup items, and then restart the computer. For more information, see Mac OS Help.


When you start Microsoft Excel 2004 for Mac, Microsoft PowerPoint 2004 for Mac, or Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac, you receive the following error message: 

An unexpected error occured while trying to load the Microsoft Framework Library.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, perform one of the following actions:
  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Download and install all Office 2004 updates: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx (http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx) . Under the "Browse for downloads" section, click Office 2004. Download all the available updates.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the initial release of Office 2004 for Mac SP2. This bug was corrected in the updated release of Office 2004 for Mac SP2.
