You receive a "Runtime Error" error message when you start Fable: The Lost Chapters

SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Fable: The Lost Chapters, you receive an error message that resembles the following message:
Runtime Error! C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Fable - The Lost Chapters\Fable.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if your video hardware does not meet the game requirements.

RESOLUTION

This issue will occur if the video hardware that is installed in your computer does not meet the minimum system requirements for Fable: The Lost Chapters.

To determine what kind of video hardware is installed in your computer, you can use the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (Dxdiag.exe). To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type dxdiag, and then click OK.
  2. Click the System tab. Note the value for Processor and for Memory.
  3. Click the Display tab. Under Device, note the name of the video card and the value for Approx. Total Memory.
  4. Click Exit.
When you know the name of your video card, see the "Unsupported video hardware" section of the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
905588  (http://kbalertz.com/Feedback.aspx?kbNumber=905588/ ) The minimum system requirements for Microsoft Fable: The Lost Chapters
Note The list of video hardware in this article only includes video hardware that was available when the game was released. There are many video cards that came on the market since then, and the list may not be complete.

If you received the error message that was described earlier and your video card is not on the list of unsupported video hardware, check with the manufacturer of your computer or the manufacturer of your video card to see whether your video card is a 64-MB shader-capable video card. If your video card is not a 64-MB shader-capable video card, you will have to purchase a new video card to use the game.
