When Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 crawls a content source, the crawl takes longer than expected to finish.
This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:
- SharePoint Portal Server 2003 is building a local groups cache.
- SharePoint Portal Server 2003 runs the GetHostByAddr function to perform the lookup of the NetBIOS name of the host. The lookup is performed for each item in the content sources that are being crawled.
This problem was first fixed in a hotfix that is now contained in a service pack. If you installed the latest SharePoint Portal Server 2003 service pack, you do not have to install the hotfix.
