Error message when you install Microsoft Dynamics CRM Service Provider Edition: "Action Microsoft.CRM.Setup.Server.CopyReportServerVirtualDirAction failed. Exception from HRESULT: 0x80005006"

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 Professional Edition for Service Providers, you select the option to connect to an existing SQL Server Reporting Services installation that is not located on the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server. When the Setup program tries to connect to the SQL Server Reporting Services installation, you receive the following error message:
Action Microsoft.CRM.Setup.Server.CopyReportServerVirtualDirAction failed. Exception from HRESULT: 0x80005006.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Microsoft Dynamics CRM Professional Edition for Service Providers requires that SQL Server Reporting Services be installed on the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server. Microsoft Dynamics CRM Professional Edition for Service Providers cannot connect to an existing SQL Server Reporting Services installation that resides on a server that is not the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, do not select the option to connect to an existing SQL Server Reporting Services installation that is not located on the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server. If you do not select this option, Microsoft Dynamics CRM Professional Edition for Service Providers automatically installs SQL Server Reporting Services on the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
