Error message when the Microsoft CRM-Exchange E-mail Router tries to forward an e-mail message to Microsoft Dynamics CRM: "Access denied"

On This Page

SYMPTOMS

When the Microsoft CRM-Exchange E-mail Router tries to forward an e-mail message to Microsoft Dynamics CRM, you receive the following error message:
Access denied.
This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:
  1. You used HTTPS Security to install Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
  2. The Microsoft Dynamics CRM Web site is running under the Local System service account.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Group Policy has not been updated or has not had time to run.

WORKAROUND

Workaround 1

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Change the account that is running the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Web site

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Microsoft server, right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.
  2. Expand Services and Applications, expand Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager, and then expand Application Pool.
  3. Right-click CRMAppPool, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Identity tab, click Configurable, and then enter a new account and a new password to start the CRMAppPool service.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Restart IIS. To do this, click Start, click Run, type iisreset, and then click OK.

Method 2: Restart the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server

The Microsoft Dynamics CRM computer account is added to the PrivUserGroup group during the Microsoft Dynamics CRM installation. If Group Policy delays adding the computer account to the group, restart the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server.

When you restart the server, Group Policy is forced to finish. Additionally, the computer account is added to the group. Then, the Router will forward an e-mail message to Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

Workaround 2

To work around this issue, wait a short time after the Microsoft Dynamics CRM installation.
