FIX: Error message when you try to run several queries on large data sets at the same time in SQL Server 2005: "701 There is insufficient system memory to run this query"
BUG #: 408980 (SQLBUDT)
BUG #: 157 (SQL Hotfix)
Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2005 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2005 fix release.
This article describes the following about this hotfix
release:
- The issues that are fixed by the hotfix package
- The prerequisites for installing the hotfix
package
- Whether you must restart the computer after you install the
hotfix package
- Whether the hotfix package is replaced by any other hotfix
package
- Whether you must make any registry changes
- The files that are contained in the hotfix
package
In Microsoft SQL Server 2005, when you try
to run several queries on large data sets at the same time, you may receive the following error message:
701: There is insufficient system memory to run this
query.
When you run the DBCC MEMORYSTATUS command, the following error messages are logged in the SQL Server error log:
Error message 1Query Memory Objects: Next Request is a large value or at
least significant percentage of available memory
Error message 2MEMORYBROKER_FOR_RESERVE Allocations is approximately 50%
or more of the size of Buffer Counts: Visible
This problem may occur when too much memory is reserved by
the SQL Server Memory Broker.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 1.
