When you run a multidimensional expressions (MDX) query in SQL Server 2005, no result set is returned, and you experience 100 percent CPU utilization.

This problem occurs when all the following conditions are true:

• The MDX query uses an unnatural hierarchy.
• The MDX query references the set of descendants of a member of the unnatural hierarchy.
• The SQL Profiler shows that the MDX query runs several times.
• The SQL Profiler shows that every time that the MDX query runs, the query fails.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
