SYMPTOMS

The SNA Manager Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in may exit unexpectedly when a Microsoft Host Integration Server administrator tries to add a new link service.

When this problem occurs, the SNA Manager MMC snap-in logs no event messages, and it displays no error messages. If Dr. Watson (Drwtsn32.exe) is configured as the default debugger, the Drwtsn32.log file may contain an entry that resembles the following:
Application exception occurred:

Notes
  • The Drwtsn32.log file entry that is included here occurred when a user tried to install a new distributed link service on a Host Integration Server 2000 server. If a user installs a new DLC 802.2 link service, the Drwtsn32.log file entry contains 802cfg!fAddRegistryEntry instead of remcfg!fAddRegistryEntry.
  • The SNA Manager MMC snap-in is included with Host Integration Server.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the total length is more than 2040 bytes for all the specified subkey names that are located under the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\System
Note The Host Integration Server link service configuration modules read the subkeys under this registry key.
