Error message when you try to import a customization file in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0: "The selected customization file does not conform to the required customization file schema"

The hotfix that is discussed in this article is not available for the Chinese version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM or for the Japanese version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0:
  • A system administrator creates a custom view to filter accounts by using several owners as the filter criteria.
  • The customizations are exported to a customization file.
  • You try to import the customization file back into Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0.
In this scenario, the customization file is not imported. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
The selected customization file does not conform to the required customization file schema. A schema validation error has been detected at line line_number.

RESOLUTION

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 Update Rollup 1. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 Update Rollup 1 and Update Rollup 1 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 Professional Edition for Service Providers.

I've applied this to hotfix to a VPC image as well as a "real" development server. The fix did not work. I received the same error as before and was unable to import my customizations. I was wondering if anyone else has had experience with this hot fix and the import problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Vic
