Description of the Microsoft Windows registry
You use the Inventory Tool for Microsoft Updates (ITMU) to scan Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 client computers for updates. In this scenario, you experience the following symptoms:
- SMS 2003 does not obtain the hardware inventory from some client computers successfully.
- Error information that resembles the following is logged in SMS 2003:

This problem occurs if the date and time format on the client computer is changed from the default format. In this scenario, the
win32_patchstate_extended Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) class contains an invalid
DateRevised value. Therefore, SMS 2003 may not process the hardware inventory data from a client computer.
To resolve this problem, obtain and install the ITMU version 3. To obtain the ITMU version 3, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.
To work around this problem, set the date format of the following registry value to
mm/dd/yyyy:
HKEY_USERS\DEFAULT\Control Panel\International
After you do this, the value appears as follows:
