ActiveX controls do not load on Web pages that were created in FrontPage 2003 after you install security update 912812
After you install security update 912812, Microsoft Internet Explorer does not automatically enable an ActiveX control on a Web page. Instead, you must click the control placeholder to start and load the ActiveX control. This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
- The Web page was created in Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003.
- The Web page includes ActiveX controls and Java applets that are loaded by the HTML code of the page. These controls and applets include hover buttons, banner ads, and other elements.

MS06-013: Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer
This problem occurs because of the changes to ActiveX component handling that are included in security update 912812. When security update 912812 is installed, the <applet>, <embed>, and <object> page elements cannot load an ActiveX control.
To create Web pages that will load ActiveX controls and respond immediately to user input, you must use Microsoft Jscript to load these controls from external script files. For information about how to do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
Note If you use the methods that this article describes, the ActiveX controls will not be rendered in the FrontPage Design View. To view the controls, use the
Preview tab or the
Preview in Browser feature. To use the
Preview in Browser feature, follow these steps:
- On the File menu, click Preview in Browser.
-
Click the browser that you want to use, and then click Preview.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
