Description of the Microsoft Windows registry
Consider the following scenario. You install Antigen for SMTP Gateways on a computer that is acting as an SMTP virtual server. The computer that is acting as an SMTP virtual server is not a member of the domain. When you try to open the Antigen administrator console, you receive the following error message:
Unable to connect to scanjob
This behavior occurs because Antigen depends on the Netlogon service to connect to ScanJob. In this scenario, the computer that is acting as the SMTP virtual server is not part of the domain. Therefore, the Netlogon service account cannot be authenticated.
Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.
To work around this behavior, remove the Netlogon dependency. To do this, follow these steps:
- Use an account that has administrative permissions to log on to the computer that is acting as the SMTP gateway.
- Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate and then click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\AntigenService
- Double-click DependOnService.
- In the Edit Multi String dialog box, click Netlogon under Value data, press DELETE, and then click OK.
- Restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
This behavior is by design.
