Error message when you run the IIS 6.0 Migration Tool on the destination computer: "Network path not found"

SYMPTOMS

You use the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 Migration Tool (Iismt.exe) to migrate a Web application from a source computer that is running IIS to a destination computer that is running IIS 6.0. When you run the IIS 6.0 Migration Tool on the destination computer, you experience the following symptoms:
  • You receive the following error message:
    Network path not found
  • The Web site content and the other data are not copied from the source computer to the destination computer.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the root of the drive on which the operating system is installed on the source computer is not shared as an administrative shared resource.

For example, the operating system is installed on drive C on the source computer. If drive C is not shared as drive C$, you experience the symptoms that are mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.

RESOLUTION

Share the root of the drive on the source computer as an administrative shared resource. For example, if the operating system is installed on drive C on the source computer, share drive C as drive C$.

MORE INFORMATION

The IIS 6.0 Migration Tool is a command-line tool that automates several of the steps that are needed to migrate a Web application from an existing installation of IIS 4.0, of IIS 5.0, or of IIS 6.0 to a clean installation of IIS 6.0. The tool transfers the Web site content, the configuration data, and the application settings to a new server that is running IIS 6.0.
