Error message when you try to perform a mail merge in Publisher by using an Outlook contact list: "Unable to obtain list of tables from the data source"
When
you try to perform a mail merge in Microsoft Publisher by using a Microsoft
Outlook contact list, you receive the following error message:
Unable to obtain list of tables from the data
source.
This
issue occurs if you select an Outlook contact list that is not available in
Publisher. The Outlook contact list must be displayed in the Outlook Address
Book for Publisher to use the contact list in a mail merge.
To
resolve this issue, enable the
Show this folder as an e-mail Address
Book option in Outlook for the contacts folder that contains the
contact list that you want. This causes the contact list to be displayed in the
Outlook Address Book. To do this, follow these steps:
- In Outlook, click Contacts.
- Under My Contacts, right-click the
contacts folder that contains the contact list that you want to use, and then
click Properties.
- On the Outlook Address Book tab, click to
select the Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book check
box, and then click OK.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
