You cannot use the "runas" command to run Internet Explorer 7 in a different user account in Windows Vista
When you try to use the
runas command at a command prompt in Windows Vista to run Windows Internet Explorer 7, you find that Internet Explorer 7 does not start. When this occurs, you are trying to use the
runas command to run Internet Explorer 7 in an account that differs from the one that you used when you logged on to Windows Vista.
This issue occurs because Internet Explorer 7 does not support the
runas command in Windows Vista.
To work around this issue, switch to the different user account in Windows Vista, and then start Internet Explorer 7 directly.
To switch user accounts in Windows Vista, click
Start, click the arrow next to the
Lock button, and then click
Switch Users.
APPLIES TO
- Windows Internet Explorer 7, when used with:
- Windows Vista Business
- Windows Vista Enterprise
- Windows Vista Home Basic
- Windows Vista Home Premium
- Windows Vista Starter
- Windows Vista Ultimate

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
