One or more scan engines do not update successfully in Antigen 9.0 for Exchange
When you view the
SCANNER UPDATE SETTINGS work panel in the Microsoft Antigen 9.0 for Exchange Antigen Administrator program, you notice that one or more scan engines is not up to date.
For example, if you click
Microsoft AV in the
Name list, an outdated date appears in the
Last Updated box under
Scanner Information. Additionally, when you examine the %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Antigen for Exchange\ProgramLog.txt file, you notice information that resembles the following:
ERROR: UpdateException: (0x00000005) Access is denied. Failed to write manifest to local directory:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Antigen for Exchange\Engines\x86\Microsoft\Bin\manifest.cab
This problem occurs if the Manifest.cab file has the Read-only attribute set.
To resolve this problem, remove the Read-only attribute from the Manifest.cab file. To do this, follow these steps:
- Start Windows Explorer, and then locate the following folder:
%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Antigen for Exchange\engines\x86\engine type\bin
Replace engine type with the scan engine that is not updating successfully. For example, perform one of the following actions:- Replace engine type with Norman.
- Replace engine type with Microsoft.
- Replace engine type with Antigen.
- In the Bin folder, right-click the Manifest.cab file, and then click Properties.
- On the General tab, click to clear the Read-only check box, and then click OK.
- Start the Antigen Administrator program, and then manually update the scan engine. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Antigen for Exchange, and then click Antigen Administrator.
- In the Shuttle Navigator, click Scanner Updates.
- In the SCANNER UPDATE SETTINGS work panel, click the affected scan engine, and then click Update Now.
