Error message when you try to enter a server URL in InfoPath 2007: "An error occurred while verifying the form template"

SYMPTOMS


Consider the following scenario. You want to verify the compatibility of a form on a server in Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007. To do this, you must enter the server URL in InfoPath 2007. When you enter the server URL, you receive the following error message:
An error occurred while verifying the form template.
When you click Show Details, you receive the following error message:
The SOAP message cannot be parsed.

CAUSE

This issue occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • You add a default page to the URL. For example, you may add a http://servername/site/default.aspx default page.
  • The URL includes only the server name, or the URL includes only the server name and the site name.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
