Items that are associated with a "keyword best bet" in SharePoint Server 2007 are displayed in the search results even though a user does not have permissions to access the items

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You add a search keyword in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. Then, you add one or more best bets to the keyword. A user searches the site by using that keyword, or a synonym of that keyword. Items that are associated with the keyword best bet are displayed in the search results even though the user does not have permissions to access the items. Therefore, when the user clicks an item that is associated with a keyword best bet in the search results, the user may be unable to access the item.

CAUSE

In SharePoint Server 2007, items in the search results that are associated with a keyword best bet can be viewed by all users. Although all users can view these items, users must have appropriate permissions before they can access those particular items.

MORE INFORMATION

A keyword best bet is a document or page URL that a site administrator selects for a particular search keyword. Site administrators can use keyword best bets to mark items so that the items appear more prominently in search results. Keyword best bets enable site administrators to guide users to specific pages or to specific documents that are more important or more relevant to the users' searches. For more information about keyword best bets, see SharePoint Server 2007 Help.
