Update for Microsoft Windows XP (KB904942)

This update resolves a problem in which authentication fails when you either use Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Outlook Express to try to log on to a HTTP-based mail server. This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • The client computer that you use to log on is running Internet Explorer 7.
  • The HTTP server is using digest authentication.

Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool

The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool checks the computer for infections by specific, prevalent malicious software. This malicious software includes Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom. Additionally, the tool helps remove any infection that it finds in the computer. If the computer has an infection, the tool notifies you after the computer restarts when you are installing Internet Explorer 7. If you do not receive notification about an infection, the tool did not find an infection.

The Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool only scans the computer one time during the installation of Internet Explorer 7. The tool does not provide continuous virus scanning. The tool only runs again if you download an update to the tool by using Windows Update or Microsoft Update, either through the Microsoft Web site or through Automatic Updates.

Community Feedback System

Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back. Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what didn't.

Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry edits), please consult a professional.
