Error message when you try to edit an organization chart in 2007 Office programs: "Cannot open this object because the Organization Chart Add-in for Microsoft Office programs is not installed"

SYMPTOMS

You try to edit an organization chart in a 2007 Microsoft Office program. If the organization chart was created in an earlier version of Microsoft Office, you may receive the following error message:
Cannot open this object because the Organization Chart Add-in for Microsoft Office programs is not installed. To open the Microsoft Office Setup dialog box and do a custom installation, in Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs. Organization Chart is located under Microsoft Office PowerPoint.

CAUSE

This issue may occur when one of the following conditions is true:
  • The organization chart was created in a Microsoft Office 2003 program or in a Microsoft Office XP program by using the Microsoft Organization Chart 2.0 add-in.
  • The organization chart was created in a Microsoft Office 2000 program or an earlier Microsoft Office program by using MS Organization Chart 2.0.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install the Organization Chart Add-in for Microsoft Office programs component. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Exit all 2007 Office programs.
  2. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Click the installed version of the 2007 Office program, and then click Change.
  4. Click Add or Remove Features, and then click Continue.
  5. On the Installation Options tab, expand Microsoft Office, and then expand Microsoft Office PowerPoint.
  6. Click the icon next to Organization Chart Add-in for Microsoft Office programs, and then click Run from My Computer.
  7. Click Continue.
