INTRODUCTION

Issue that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix fixes the following issue that not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

Consider the following scenario:
  • You upgrade from Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) to Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2).
  • The computer that is running SharePoint Portal Server 2003 SP2 acts as the index server.
  • You install a SharePoint Portal Server 2003 post-SP2 rollup package.
In this scenario, many event IDs that resemble the following are logged in the Application log on the computer that acts as the index server:
Source: SharePoint Portal Server
Category: None
Type: Warning
Event ID: 110
Description: SharePoint Portal Server was unable to get some of the Virtual Server configuration for portal site Portal_Name. As a result, any backups of the portal site that are made using SQL Server backup tools will not contain all Virtual Server configuration.

For more information on how you can correct this situation, visit http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=47309
Typically, this problem occurs in a medium to large SharePoint Portal Server 2003 farm topology. In this scenario, the event ID 110 warnings occur when the index server cannot locate a Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) virtual server that was extended to host a SharePoint Portal Server 2003 site.
